Rights and responsibilities

Laws

Laws are made for everyone, as common set of rules for society and for equal protection of every citizen. The Constitution of Finland is the cornerstone for all legislation and use of public authority. It includes statutes on the individual’s basic rights, public constitution and relations of higher state bodies. You can find details of other Finnish legislation from Finlex and European Union legislation from EUR-Lex.

What rights do I have when I reach the age of eighteen? An answer to that question and other information about youth rights and responsibilities you can find from Immigrant Nettinappi.

Personal safety

Every child and young person has the right to special protection in Finland. If your rights are infringed, seek help. You also have to act if you need help. Don’t hesitate in asking for help.

Finnish law and the convention of children’s rights of the United Nations guarantee you many basic rights. Almost every country in the world has ratified The Convention on the Rights of the Child (CRC). In the convention a child means a person who is under 18 years old. Read more of the convention from Unicef Website here.
